Academic Resource Center (ARC)
Orme's college-prep environment emphasizes high expectations and academic competence. The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides educational support to student of all skill levels. The services available include tutoring in specific courses, writing skills, reading comprehension, test-taking strategies, time management, and study skills.
If students become discouraged or overwhelmed with academic demands, ARC faculty use positive encouragement and a one-on-one relationship to give them support and develop learning skills. We strive to help students become more motivated, to better understand their own learning process, to recall more material, and to apply what they have learned through increased comprehension, mastery of concepts, reading and writing practice, note-taking, organization, and other techniques and strategies.
We communicate regularly with the teachers, advisors, residential faculty, and parents of contracted students, to provide feedback on the student's progress.
We offer a variety of services to assist students in improving their academic skills, including:
- mentoring small group study sessions
- coordinating private tutoring
- workshops on academic skills
- study hall sessions
- hosting online courses
- assessment of learning styles
Please note that the support services offered by the Center are intended to supplement classroom instruction, not replace it.
