Outdoor Adventuring
Outdoor Adventuring is an after-school activity that exposes students to many different outdoor pursuits. As they learn to thrive in wild country, they gain practical skills and confidence while they develop leadership and decision-making ability. Skills include rock climbing, rappelling, jumaring, mountain biking, backpacking, kayaking, cross-country route finding, interpreting topographic maps, land navigation (day and night), and knowledge of the region's natural and human history: life zones, plants, wildlife, geology, weather, climate, astronomy, and archeology.
A time-honored highlight is the Solo, an opportunity to use what they have learned and spend a night alone in the wilderness. Outdoor Adventuring is offered in the Fall and Spring seasons. While it takes place primarily during the regular weekday afternoon activity period, it includes some overnight and weekend excursions.
