Planned Giving

As you consider your gift to Orme, you should be familiar with the many ways that gifts may be made. While tax consequences are seldom the primary motive in philanthropy, they often play a role in determining how a gift should be made.

For many donors, a planned gift is the best way to support Orme and ensure their own or their family's financial security at the same time. A planned gift may allow you to make a larger gift than would otherwise be possible and provide substantial tax savings. Some types of planned gifts even provide income from donated assets, for yourself or your family, now or in the future.

Ask your personal financial advisor to help you find out what your charitable deduction, annual income and other benefits would be for certain types of planned gifts (charitable remainder annuity trusts and unitrusts, charitable lead trusts and annuity trusts, and gift annuities).

The types of planned gifts described here will help you find one or more methods most appropriate for you given your own personal and financial circumstances.

Bequests
Donating cash, securities or real estate through a will, either by designating a specific dollar amount or a percentage of an estate.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
Provides fixed or variable annual income in exchange for gifts of cash, securities or real estate.

Charitable Lead Trusts
Donor designates the income from an asset to Orme for a certain length of time, but retains the asset itself.

Charitable Gift Annuity
A simple mechanism that provides a fixed stream of income for life in return for a gift.

Deferred Payment Gift Annuity
A smart choice for younger donors during peak income years to ensure fixed retirement income, much like an IRA.

Life Insurance
Naming Orme owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy provides many tax benefits.

Retained Life Estate
Donors may give their personal residence or farm to Orme and receive substantial tax benefits while retaining use of the property for their lifetimes.

Retirement and Pension Plans
Designating retirement benefits to Orme at the death of the donor provides substantial estate and income tax savings.

The Heritage Club
The Heritage Club recognizes those alumni, friends and parents who have made a planned gift to Orme.
