The Orme Annual Fund

You can help provide exceptional academic opportunities and experiences for every Orme student and camper through your gift to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund campaigns run from June 1 to May 31 each year. The Annual Fund goal for 2007-2008 is $1 million.

What do the Annual Funds support?
Annual Funds gifts benefit every student and professor in some way by providing additional funding for:

• Scholarships and financial aid to help students afford a private education
• The day to day operations of the School and Camp, including faculty, staff and administrative salaries.
• Interscholastic sports, horsemanship, outdoor leadership, fine arts, caravan and summer camp
• Capital expenditures to maintain Orme’s outstanding facilities and beautiful campus.

How can my gift make a difference?
Every gift – no matter what amount – does make a difference. Combining your gift with the gifts of hundreds of other donors will provide about $1 million in operating funds each year, the equivalent of $20 million in new endowment. That’s an additional $1,000,000 each year for scholarships, faculty salaries, research funds and academic and co-curricular programs. Just as important, a high percentage of support from those closest to Orme is often necessary to attract gifts from foundations and corporations and is one of the factors used to determine the Orme’s ranking in various publications.

What about Orme’s endowment?
Only 5 percent of Orme’s operating budget comes from endowment revenue. The endowment is not just one fund, but many funds established by individual donors. The individual funds are grouped together for investment purposes in what is commonly referred to as “the endowment.” Only a percentage of endowment income from each fund is spent each year, with the rest re-invested in that fund so that it continues to grow and provide more income in future years. Typically, donors of endowed funds specify what their gift is to be used for, such as scholarships, the library, humanities, athletics, sciences, fine arts, horsemanship and outdoor leadership. The Annual Fund provides an invaluable source of unrestricted funds each year that can be used to meet needs not covered by the endowment or tuition.

Why should I give to the Annual Fund?
Your gift will help provide the exceptional academic opportunities and experiences that distinguish an Orme education. The Orme Annual Fund goes directly to this years operating budget. Gifts to the Annual Fund go directly to this years operating budget. Each year, the cost of running the school and summer camp exceed the revenues generated by tuition and fees. Your gift to the Annual Fund help us bridge this gap and supports the daily cost of maintenance, salaries, dormitories, health care, and classroom supplies. In addition, the uniquely Orme programs like Caravan, Horsemanship, Fine Arts, Outdoor Leadership, Athletics and so much more are funded by your generous support to the Annual Fund. Your gift also helps us provide over $800,000 in financial aid to kids from all over the country who could not otherwise afford to benefit from Orme. Join us today and make a difference in a child's life!

How can I make a gift?
In addition to cash or checks, gifts also may be made on-line; by Mastercard, Visa or Discover, and American Express (including credit and debit); by transferring appreciated securities (stocks and bonds); or by donating real estate (especially highly-appreciated property) or other real property. You may be able to double or even triple the value of your gift if your company has a matching gift program; check with your company’s human resources office for details. All donors, regardless of the amount of their gift, are acknowledged in the annual report, published with the Winter issue of The Orme Bulletin.
