Community and Ranch

Developing a respect for and involvement in your community is an important part of the Orme philosophy. Our programs teach students to work together and respect everyone as an individual.

In many ways, Orme reflects the history of the West. What began as a one-room school with seven eager students has blossomed into the outstanding coeducational, college preparatory school of today, enrolling 140 students from 16 countries and 25 states.

Orme is a community in itself. Our small size and village-like atmosphere create an environment that offers students special opportunities to develop self-confidence and self-esteem through leadership roles. Each student is a valued citizen whose involvement is essential in making the community function successfully.

The School borders the two-square-mile (500 hectare) Orme Ranch, from which it sprang eight decades ago and with which it still maintains ties. The privately-owned Ranch grazes several hundred cattle on forty square miles (100 square kilometers) of surrounding public land and cultivates about 80 acres (30 hectares) of farmland. Students use portions of the Ranch for both academic study and outdoor activities.
